Reflections show it…

Got a nice surprise today, in a Christmas card from my Pops.
Two old school reports.

I loved school, from junior through to senior school, then the family moved away. I didn’t want to move away, but these two reports just show the decline in standards has a direct effect on a child.

The first report was just three months after we moved away.
It was my first senior school report.
Full of “excellent results” & “excellent efforts” plus attentive, alert and tries hard.

The second report, from two years later at the same school.
Poor effort, carelessness, no enthusiasm for the subject, must try harder, poor exam results, etc.

Prior to moving away, all my reports were good to glowing, loved all the tests and experiences I’d had.
Even at my new senior school, I had many friends and life was fun. School trips with the 5th year seniors, football competitions, cross country, etc.
Life was very good, I was very happy.

Once moved away, to a larger town bigger area, the school I went to was the main school in the area.
There were fights on a daily basis, children running riot around the classrooms, rude to teachers, crime was much higher on the streets where we all played.
Three times I witnessed children having their bikes stolen off them. You get the picture.

Reading those school reports, it stands out like a sore thumb.
What could have been.

It really does make a difference where children are brought up.
