I wrote to her once, regarding a proposal in Parliament suggesting that the UK ditch the pound and take up the euro.
I wrote in support of keeping the pound.
I received a token response from her office, thanking me for taking the time to write.
The only other occasion I had the good fortune to cross her Majesty’s path, was on a visit to a local town centre a few years ago.
As a supporter, I heard that she was visiting a local town centre, so went along to see her. Prince Phillip was also attending.
When I got there, so many people had turned out to see her, that the pavements were packed, five people across, all over the centre.
I had our little one on my shoulders, I wanted her to see our Queen.
My other family were not really that interested in seeing her.
I worked my way to the front and a couple with a small child were struggling to see, so I let them forward so they could see. After an ear bashing from my better half, I was shunted to the back of the crowd and only got fleeting glances of The Queen and Prince Phillip, while my family that were not that interested in going along, got right to the front and were literally half a road away from the Royal couple as they slowly passed in their car, waving at the crowds.
I wish I took some video footage, if I did, I cannot find it.
I had a lot of time for the Queen and like many others, it’s been a very strange week since her passing.
I love watching the documentaries about the royal family, there’s her Platinum Jubilee look at her home movies on the BBC iplayer at the moment.
I also wish the powers that be would show the documentary that the royal family allowed in the early 1970s, again.
I’ve seen the odd clip but not the full program.
Another royal family member I have a lot of time for, is the Princess Royal, Princess Anne.
While we have a new king and new Prince of Wales, it must be very difficult for Princess Anne.
I watched her on a question of sport when I was young, I watched her at the Olympics and I caught the fabulous documentary that she allowed, not to long ago.
Escorting the Queen to Edinburgh, for a full six hours, she looked exhausted.
I hope they are given time to peacefully grieve for their loss.
